1950s Makeup Look

One of the most recent looks we had to do on my course for Makeup for Film, TV and Theatre was a traditional simple 1950s look. We looked at notable famous figures from the 50s like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn and looked at their makeup.

They had a paler complexion, using only a sheer foundation, concealer on blemishes and dark patches, blush, elongated brows with a high arch, a neutral simple eye, powder for a matte finish, a red or darker pink lip, mascara and of course, liquid eyeliner. 

Here's what I came up with on Becky my model.......

The makeup seems very simple and matte however I'm only used to applying makeup to myself, which is why I'm taking this course as you can probably tell by the liquid eyeliner! I found this the hardest part to get the eyes matching and also getting it as close to the eye as possible was difficult when working on an eye shape I wasn't used to.

The eyebrows we obviously had to work with what we had but using a dark eyeshadow made it a lot easier to follow the shape. I also found it so hard not to contour or bronze my model as I'm so used to this and think it completes a look!

I honestly enjoyed this style of makeup as it was very simple for a starting look, next week is 1960s! What's your favourite era for makeup?

Favourite Red Lips

When it comes to lips there's nothing more traditional than a red lipstick. It can sometimes be difficult to find a high pigmented, long-posting red lip and we've all be through the struggle of reapplying every 2 minutes! I like to change my favourite lippys up a bit so i've made a list of my top 5...

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Revolution Lipstick - Mrs. Mia Wallace

This is one of my newest additions to my lipstick collection as the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction collection was only released in the UK last September and due to the high demand I wasn't able to get my hands on it until November... It was my first lipstick from Urban Decay and I love everything about it. The colour is the perfect blood/deep red and the lipstick formulation is incredibly creamy. It's truly long-lasting, smooth and richly pigmented. The packaging is so sleek and personally I found that the lipstick makes my teeth look whiter when wearing it, and who doesn't want that!

Kate Moss Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick - 01

I've had this lipstick for a good few years now and I love the creaminess of it. It's a more blue toned red and is very long lasting. The only downside to this lipstick is that it can be slightly drying but it's nothing a little lipgloss/balm won't solve! Great value for money retailing at £5.49, perfect for those on a budget.

MAC Matte Lipstick - Ruby Woo

MAC is definitely my favourite brand for lipsticks in general, but especially their reds. Ruby Woo is incredibly matte, making it last a lot longer than other lipsticks which is essential for bright colours, especially for long days and nights out. As this lipstick is SO matte, it can be very drying so a lip liner is essential for me but personally I would wear a liner with all of these lipsticks. Definitely a repurchase! 

MAC Matte Lipstick - Lady Danger

My number 1 favourite MAC Lipstick that I own, possibly even my favourite from my whole collection. Lady Danger is definitely my most worn, go-to red. It's incredibly bright and summery however works all year round and even for that wintery, christmassy red. One of the least drying of MAC lipsticks, very creamy and pigmented and of course it's MAC so smells dreamy! 

Sleek Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Cream 

Not exactly a lipstick, but when it's done it's magic you couldn't tell! These Sleek Matte Creams apply glossy and creamy but quickly dry to a long wearing matte finish. Possibly the longest wearing lip product I own, perfect if you're not a fan of reapplying! So so pigmented and at £4.99 it's definitely worth it for how long lasting it is!

MAC Starter Kit

Hi Guys!
Today I thought i'd talk about my favourite high end brand: MAC.
I always have and always will love MAC and I really feel that it's worth paying their prices for high quality products. This is my 'MAC starter kit'; the things i'd buy if I was starting my collection again and knew that I needed the basics...

1. Foundation - Studio Fix Fluid (NW20)

This foundation was definitely one of my first memorable MAC purchases and one I was always go back to. It gives an incredible high coverage and comes in such a range of shades that it is perfect for everyone, however it is a matte finish so I wouldn't recommend for people whose skin is more on the dry side.

2. Pro Longwear Concealer (NW20)

Possibly one of the most raved about concealers, MAC's Pro Longwear goes hand in hand perfectly with their studio fix fluid. It rarely creases under the eye, is very high pigmented and the pump makes everything so much easier!

3. Strobe Cream

This is a product that I've had for a while but was never really bothered about using at first. Recently I tried it out again and haven't put it down since, I love this product. I use it just before I apply my foundation and it makes my skin look so hydrated even through foundation and powder etc. A little bit of this product goes a long way, would definitely recommend even for no makeup days.

4. Pro Longwear Paint Pot (Soft Ochre)

I'm a very big fan of MAC's paint pots as I feel they are unique to MAC as there are no other similar products on the market. Soft Ochre is just a tiny bit darker than my concealer and I use it all over the eyelid before applying any eyeshadow to make it stay on longer and easier to apply, or I sometimes wear it on it's own as it brightens up the lid, making you look more awake.

5. Powder Blush (Desert Rose)

I've never personally been into blush as I have naturally rosy cheeks which I use makeup to get rid of however when I do use it, it's usually Desert Rose. It's the perfect matte shade and is incredibly pigmented, but not dangerously. Used lightly it's very natural and soft however can pull slightly red more than pink.

6. Single Eyeshadow Pans (Brulé, Cork)

I picked these two from my palette as they are definitely the two shadows I use almost everyday. Brulé is a perfect all-over lid shade and eyebrow highlight as it's a satin finish and doesn't get too chalky. Cork is that perfect crease colour, also a satin finish it is a staple shadow for me and is perfect for creating that everyday look.

7. Mineralize Skinfinish (Soft and Gentle)

Possibly my favourite MAC product of all time. I spent weeks trying to get my hands on Soft and Gentle as it was sold out everywhere and as soon as I got it I knew why! The perfect champagne highlighter shade however a bit pricey at £23 you get so much product that it makes it worth it. Soft and Gentle leaves me with a natural glow for hours as it is such a long wearing beautiful product.

8. Studio Careblend Pressed Powder (Medium)

I spoke about this product in my last post as it is new to my collection however I honestly feel like I will repurchase this forever. Can provide a light coverage however can also be build up to a much more full coverage. It's very finely milled so doesn't look cakey over foundation and you won't lose any colour or products that you have on underneath, the perfect amount of matte.

9. Fix+

I honestly can't remember life without fix+. Before buying it I always thought it was a product that was a bit gimmicky and i'd be disappointed however it was the complete opposite. I always spray my brush or beauty blender with Fix+ before applying foundation or concealer and it makes such a noticeable difference. It makes foundation look so natural and doesn't allow for streaky lines as it helps to get perfectly even coverage and also makes it so much easier to apply. This is also great to spray on eyeshadow brushes when using metallic or glitter shadows as it makes them apply so much more pigmented.

December/January buys and presents

Hi Guys!
Hope you're all having a good week, as I was doing my makeup this morning I realised how many of the products I was using were new to my collection. As the Christmas period came and went, January sales were short after and therefore I seem to have gathered quite a few products! So lets get into them....

Benefit They're Real Kit

One present I got this Christmas was the Benefit They're Real kit. The kit contains They're Real mascara, They're Real push-up liner, and They're Real remover. The 3 products came in a little Benefit bag and were the perfect stocking filler. I already had a sampler size of the mascara and new I wanted a full size one and also really wanted to try the liner - the remover was just a bonus! As I said I had already tried the mascara which I think could be my favourite mascara ever when it comes to volume and thickness, the liner however was a disappointment. I really wanted to join the hype and absolutely love this liner however I just found it too hard to apply even though when it is on it doesn't budge and is the perfect matte black. I think this is one of those products I will have to grow to love with a lot of practise!

MAC Studio Careblend Pressed Powder & MAC 129 Powder/Blush Brush

I was in desperate need of a new face powder and had heard great reviews about this one from MAC. I got mine in the shade medium and it is the perfect match. It is long-wearing and doesn't become cakey on the skin which will be especially perfect come summer time. You only need the tiniest bit of product to cover the whole face which is also a plus. With the powder I also got a MAC Powder brush in 129, this does the job perfectly and I find it much easier to use than the powder puff the powder came with.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I've always used Real Techniques when it comes to foundation as I've found they're very affordable and do the job well however I normally used the Miracle Complexion Sponge. When I went to my local Boots to pick up a new one (mine is now well used and practically ruined!) they didn't have any in store so I went for the Expert Face Brush instead. I use this brush with a spray of MAC Fix+ on it and have honestly noticed a difference in my foundation, I now love this brush as it provides complete coverage and doesn't allow for streaky lines. 

MAC Blue Flame and Chrome Angel

During December I managed to go to a makeup outlet in Liverpool. They had lots of discontinued and limited edition MAC, Estee Lauder, Smashbox etc and I managed to pick up these two items for a discounted price. The first is Blue Flame Mineralize Eye Shadow which comes out as a dark blue with royal blue reflex of glitter throughout. I love this eyeshadow it was perfect for December nights out! The second product is Chrome Angel Pro Longwear Paint Pot which I am yet to use. The product; like all MAC Paint Pots is incredibly creamy and the colour is a very true silver, I will have to play around with this and see how it goes!

Collection Colourlash All Day Wear Colour Mascara - 1 Clear

I was looking for a simple clear mascara to use to set my brows as the one I had been previously using (Eyebrow Fix by H&M) had gone gunky and wasn't doing it's job so I picked up this one for just £1.99 which was a steal. This product does exactly what I want it to do and for the price is perfect. 

L'oreal Skin Perfection Advanced Correcting Serum

This was a repurchase for me as i'd used this product in the summer and absolutely loved it but never got round to repurchasing it. I use about two pumps a night and it covers my whole face with a noticeable smoother difference almost immediately. A product I will always repurchase! 

MAC Keepsakes Eye Bag - Smokey

This may be my favourite product in this whole post just because of the cutest glittery bag the products come in. But despite the bag, the actual products you get is the Zoom Lash Mascara in Black Extreme, Engraved Powerpoint Eye Pencil and a Extra Dimension Eyeshadow Duo in Treasure me/Tall, Dark and Handsome. The mascara is probably my favourite MAC mascara I've tried in terms of length and the liner is incredibly precise as I have Smoulder by MAC which is very similar however not waterproof like Engraved, which for me is very important in an eyeliner. The duo I am yet to try however swatched they are incredibly pigmented.

Entering the Beauty World

Hi Guys!
I've decided to make my way into the world of Beauty Blogging. I'm 18 years old from Surrey and am at the Arts University in Bournemouth, England. In addition to the course I do there I have also had a strong love for beauty and makeup and have decided to take a short course in Makeup for Film, Television and Theatre as a way to start learning some tricks of the trade. My dream job is to work on a makeup counter (dream big! haha) and am hoping the course and this blog will help me achieve that. On here I'm looking to post anything from makeup, nails, hair and fashion and hope to stick with it as a new years resolution!
